Introduction to the Topic

Throughout history, the art of music has experienced many changes. New musical styles replace older ones and lead to new trends. However, certain musical techniques and elements are applied in contrasting styles and reappear during different time periods. These elements have experienced slight modifications throughout time, yet each generation finds a way to incorporate them into its music. For example, an element found in both Baroque and Jazz is improvisation, due to which the structure of their compositions is similar. Maybe Bach would be completely comfortable in a contemporary jazz club, or perhaps Louis Armstrong would have gotten a kick out of jamming with those guys with wigs.
